Lots of people dread the idea of making a speech; it could be at a wedding, giving a vote of thanks, a presentation at work, or job interview.

The main reason for this is a lack of self confidence; they are not used to it and there are no rehearsals.

A speakers Club is one of the few places where this problem can be addressed; members speak in front of others, receiving advice and encouragement in an informal and friendly atmosphere.

At our fortnightly meetings we get used to  an audience, it almost becomes second nature and when we speak in public, outside the confines of the club environment, we are not fazed.

The club does not guarantee to turn members into great orators (although some manage it) but generally after a few months they will have the self confidence to give a good account of themselves. This can help job promotion prospects.

We can also help those who have speech difficulties such as a stammer and we even managed to help a member with cerebral palsy.

Our evenings are educational, interesting and enjoyable; in fact some members join mainly for the enjoyment they get from the meetings and for the social aspect.
During our summer break we have social occasions to keep the members in touch.
